CATA Growing & Processing Standards
|
Our member farms and factories are part of a growing movement in China to establish new, direct markets in Europe, Canada and the United States. One of our concerns is maintaining the quality of tea shipments from China ("quality" de fined in terms of grade, purity and freshness).
For this reason, all CATA teas require organic certifications
or certified lab test results prior to sale. CATA imports exlcusively Grade 1 and Grade 2 organic teas. CATA members must agree to adhere to:
- Fair Trade practices
- Pesticide-free farming
- Natural, environmentally-sound fertilization methods
- Organic water purity standards
- Cleanroom procedures
- Consistent quality grading
While CATA does not have authority to enforce any standards in the US or in China, by agreeing to them, our members help influence these practices
and put pressure on businesses not following them.
