Tea Certifications

Organic Certifications
Dozens of certifying bodies exist, and CATA appreciates the need of its members to participate in organic growing at the local level. Our members' display of the CATA Member emblem indicates their adherence to organic farming principles via the appropriate local certifying agency. (CATA does not provide organic certifications).

CATA Members displaying the CATA Member logo on their Web sites should link the image to this page.

Tri-China is the most common certifying agency for organic tea farming among CATA member companies in China, though other provincial certifying agencies exist.

CATA accepts any agency's certification with these basic guidelines:

  • Pesticide-free farming
  • Natural fertilization methods
  • Organic water purity standards
  • Cleanroom procedures
The US FDA Organic Certification standards are generally accepted throughout the United States; the Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program includes a list of certifying agents listed by state.

Fair Trade Certification
The Fair Trade Certified label guarantees that farmers and workers received a fair price for their product. CATA encourages this certification by its members as well.
